👋 OOTS NEWSLETTER: AUGUST 2021

Hello Out on the Shelf members! We have lots of fun news to share this month, along with our regular programming (which are starting to meet outside!). We hope you are enjoying the last days of summer and are continuing to stay safe💛 Our library remains closed, but stay tuned for more information as we navigate the Fall.

💭 Share your thoughts with us!

As an LGBTQIA+ library and resource centre, serving the Guelph and Wellington community, Out on the Shelf (OOTS) seeks to grow and respond to community needs. OOTS is gathering perspectives and feedback regarding OOTS's mission and values along with its services, programs, and resources. This information will be used to inform our strategic planning for the upcoming year and beyond.

If you agree to participate, this anonymous online survey will take 15 minutes to complete. Survey questions will ask about OOTS' mission and values, programming, library, volunteering,  communication and marketing, and diversity and inclusion.

To thank you for your time and insight, survey participants will be entered into a draw for a $50 gift certificate for The Bookshelf, Guelph's local bookstore.

📰 News and Updates

OOTS is exploring the outdoors🌼

Some of our programming has been exploring meeting outside! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see which programs are meeting in-person outside (dependent upon weather). Note: Covid regulations and social distancing measures are in place for all events, including masks.

Guelph Pride Auction: Funding BIPOC Communities🏳‍🌈  ‍

Guelph Pride just wrapped up their online auction to raise funds that will go entirely towards BIPOC presenters, facilitators, creators, performers, and supplies for BIPOC exclusive events.

Examples from this year's Spring Pride festival include: "What Is 2 Spirit?" workshops, the BIPOC exclusive creative writing workshop, paying the BIPOC performers at the big poetry and music events, and more!

Thank you to all our donors and auction participants👏

    💰 Fundraising & Grants

Enchanté Network Capacity Building Micro-Grants Program🌈

We're excited to announce that we are recipients of the Enchanté Network 2021 Capacity Building Micro-Grants Program: Anti-Racism, Indigenization, and Equity Stream!

These funds will be used to increase our capacity to ensure full and equitable access and participation of our board members and volunteers by increasing accessibility for the Deaf community and hard of hearing. Increasing accessibility means not only providing ASL interpretation but education and training. Thank you so much to the Enchanté Network and their amazing work in connecting and supporting 2Spirit and LGBTQ+ community organizations in Canada.

    🏆Community Spotlight(s)

Today we're going to highlight our friends, the Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowerment And Diversity (GRCGED)!

Student funded and collectively run, GRCGED is an intersectional feminist group and community space dedicated to fighting oppression and promoting diversity through education, advocacy, activism, resource provision, skill-building, outreach and community-building on campus and in the region.

GRCGED also hosts a resource library, including the Arrow Archive, which has over 900 zines!
